Maria Suzette Fuster
Co-Founder, Managing Partner
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Maria’s family lived in the U.S. and Central America at various times eventually landing her in Maryland. After completing her graduate degree in Business Administration, Maria teamed up to launch — a successful residential and commercial title company. At a time when digital marketing was still in its infancy, Maria embraced it with her marketing savviness and built a network of relationships. In addition to websites, SEO and social media, she started exploring video production and creative writing. Inspired by her severely impacted autistic nephew, Maria created a documentary film that interviewed families, all with children on the autism spectrum and wrote two screenplays to bring awareness to Autism. Driven to contribute even more so, Maria started a second business — a digital marketing company that helped small businesses and nonprofit organizations. Shortly thereafter, she merged with Incite Creative, a Maryland-based marketing firm that serves numerous healthcare, education and special needs organizations. Maria’s professional experiences, combined with seeing her nephew’s challenging journey into adulthood, has given Maria a new mission — to create an engaging, safe place for autistic adults and adults with diverse abilities in an environment conducive for professionals to properly care for them. And so was born nxplace Properties.
William G. Miller
Business Development, Partner
Bill grew up in Baltimore and earned his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Maryland. From there, he obtained an MBA from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bill spent his early professional career working for Fortune 500 pharmaceutical companies. After 17 years’ experience leading strategic partnerships at global healthcare organizations including GlaxoSmithKline and Bristol-Myers Squibb, Bill joined forces with his childhood friend to build a successful funeral services business. Bill’s role inspired growth into new markets and helped to expand the brand’s reputation for delivering high quality service and compassionate care. Bill is actively engaged in the community. He sits on the Board of Directors at Northwest Hospital and is a member of several local community associations. Passionate about improving the world around him, Bill recognized the opportunity to develop better living solutions for developmentally disabled adults. From that premise, he helped design the framework vision for nxplace Properties.
Douglas Beims
Co-Founder, Managing Partner
Born and raised in Maryland, Douglas graduated from Catholic University of America with a Masters degree in Architecture, becoming licensed as a professional architect in 1988.
Early in his career, Douglas was Project Architect at a firm specializing in design/development and management of adult day care centers, nursing homes, and medical facilities. Here he encountered extensive exposure to facilities with varying levels of care throughout the mid atlantic region. With a desire to truly understand the turnkey process from design to build, Doug transitioned to a position as lead architect at a construction company concentrating in healthcare facilities. For several years, Douglas designed and monitored the construction of over 1 million square feet of medical, retail, commercial and industrial spaces.
The marriage of these skills fueled his desire to create his own design/build firm in 1991. Castles & Cottages, based in Columbia, Maryland, focused on premier residential design/build projects with unique designs for discerning clients from New York to North Carolina. Over the past 30 years, Castles & Cottages scope of design-build services has grown to include a diverse range of spaces from mixed use, commercial/retail, office buildings, food services and medical facilities.
Douglas is driven by a zeal to use logic and aesthetics to create spaces both functional and beautiful. He brings his extensive experience of residential and institutional healthcare to nxplace Properties with a desire and commitment to meet the challenges of built environments for those with varying levels of needs.
Deirdre Hammaker
Special Needs Strategic Consultant
Deirdre’s son Ben was discovered to be on the autism spectrum at 1 years old. Because he is a triplet, Deirdre has had the distinct advantage of seeing typical and atypical development side-by-side. She will be the first to tell you our special needs kids are smart and are like typical kids more than you know! Deirdre has applied these observations to intervention and passionately pursues helping families, especially those with early learners, to get immediate low and no cost support and resources.
Deirdre’s Goal
To make autism easier for parents and caregivers with simple practices that rapidly transform children’s outcomes.
